Lucas Bezerra debuts with a tribute to Totonho

Who is Totonho, and why does this album matter?

Totonho — born Carlos Antonio Bezerra da Silva in 1964 in Monteiro, Paraíba — is one of Brazil's quietly essential Northeastern songwriters. He formed his first band, Os Renegados, at age nine, moved to João Pessoa in 1982 and to Rio de Janeiro in 1988. His project Totonho e os Cabra released a debut album in 2001 and a second, Sabotador de Satélites, in 2005, before fading from the national spotlight. Lucas Bezerra's tribute brings Totonho's catalogue back into the conversation.

What is on the album?

Eu mandei meu amor pro espaço contains nine songs written by Totonho, spanning compositions from 2001 to 2023. Highlights include:

• Nhem nhem nhem (2001) — Totonho's best-known track, sung with a five-voice choir: Chico Limeira, Elon, Nathalia Bellar, Nina Ferreira and Titá Moura.
• Eu mandei meu amor pro espaço (2005) — the title track, featuring Zé Ibarra.
• Rosa da matinha (2016) — a xote-rhythm duet with Geraldo Azevedo, released as the second single on 24 July.
• O arqueiro zen (2018) — the first single, recorded with Rita Benneditto.
• Amassar a lataria (2018) — which embeds a citation of Roendo unha (Luiz Gonzaga & Luiz Ramalho, 1976), with Totonho's own voice appearing in that passage.

Where and when was it recorded?

The project was conceived between 2021 and 2022 and recorded across three years and two continents: Rio de Janeiro, Recife, Maceió and João Pessoa in Brazil, plus Copenhagen (Denmark) and Malmö (Sweden). Musical production is by Arthus Fochi; cover art and visual identity by Iramaya Rocha.

When does it drop?

The album arrives on digital platforms on Friday, 7 August 2026. Lucas Bezerra, a singer-songwriter from Ceará, debuted in 2020 and released the EP Trânsito in 2021 — making this his first full-length record.
