What Is Brazil's Total Grain Forecast for 2025/26?

Brazil's grain harvest for the 2025/26 season is projected at 360.8 million tonnes, up 2.4% from the previous cycle. That increase equals 8.5 million extra tonnes compared to 2024/25, according to Conab's 11th Grain Harvest Survey released on Thursday (13).

What Is Driving the Growth?

The expansion is underpinned by a 2.1% rise in planted area, now estimated at 83.5 million hectares. Average crop productivity is forecast at 4,322 kg per hectare, broadly in line with the previous season.

How Are Soy and Corn Performing?

Soybeans remain Brazil's top agricultural commodity, with output expected to hit 180.5 million tonnes. Corn production is projected at 143 million tonnes, though Conab warns that drought conditions since June have negatively affected maize crops in the Northeast, particularly in northeastern Bahia, Sergipe and parts of Alagoas.

What About Cotton, Beans and Rice?

• Cotton: 5.8 million tonnes of seed cotton (equivalent to 4.1 million tonnes of lint).
• Beans: 3 million tonnes across three harvests — 3.2% below the previous cycle, though Conab says domestic supply remains adequate.
• Rice: 11.1 million tonnes, down due to a 14% reduction in planted area; domestic demand is still expected to be met.

Wheat stands out among winter crops for the wrong reasons: output is forecast at 5.8 million tonnes, a sharp 26.2% fall versus the 2025 harvest, driven by a 20.4% contraction in cultivated area.
