What Did Creditors Actually Approve?
At a general creditors' assembly held on July 14, 2026 — in its second convocation — creditors of Grupo Vitória Agronegócios voted to approve a restructuring plan covering a total liability of R$ 895 million. The assembly took place under the supervision of the 1st Civil Court of Paracatu, in northwestern Minas Gerais state.
How Does the Discount Structure Work?
The approved plan applies a tiered discount (deságio) model: smaller debts receive lower percentage cuts, while the largest tranches face discounts of up to 85%. Extended payment timelines are also built in, with grace periods of up to four years for certain creditors and installment schedules stretching up to roughly two decades for some obligations.
Who Is Grupo Vitória Agronegócios?
The group traces its roots to the rural activities of the Cordeiro family in the Paracatu region since the 19th century. Formally incorporated in 2004, the company states it operates 11 production units, farms more than 25,000 hectares and directly employs around 200 workers.
What Triggered the Financial Crisis?
According to the group's own initial filing, the crisis stemmed from a combination of factors: crop losses due to extreme weather events, falling commodity prices, rising input costs, more expensive rural credit, and the suspension of credit lines under the federal Plano Safra 2024/2025 programme in February 2025.
What Happens Next?
With creditor approval secured, the plan must now be ratified (homologado) by the 1st Civil Court of Paracatu before it becomes legally binding on all creditors. Once ratified, the group will begin executing the restructuring conditions set out in the plan. Attorney Antonio Frange Junior, who led the group's legal defence, stated that the approval "establishes the conditions for the group's restructuring, with liability renegotiation and the preservation of operations and jobs."
