How Big Is Father's Day Spending in Brazil in 2026?
The Brazilian National Confederation of Commerce (CNC) projects total retail sales around Father's Day 2026 will reach R$ 8.52 billion β a real increase of 2.9% compared to 2025, after adjusting for inflation. That makes it the fourth most important date on Brazil's retail calendar by sales volume.
Who Is Buying and How Much Are They Spending?
A survey by financial services firm DM, which interviewed 2,500 customers across all Brazilian regions, found that 75.7% of consumers intend to buy gifts. Nearly half β 47.2% β plan to spend more than last year. Among gift-buyers, 34.8% expect to spend over R$ 500 on a single present.
What Are the Most Popular Payment Methods?
Installment credit card payments dominate, chosen by 59.3% of shoppers. A further 24.3% will pay by credit card in one go. PIX comes third at 6.8%. Despite the preference for credit, 64.5% of buyers plan to split purchases into four installments or fewer β a sign of cautious financial management, according to DM's national commercial manager Victor Hugo Soares.
What Drives Purchase Decisions?
Budget constraints are the top consideration for 26.7% of consumers when choosing a gift. Promotions and discounts are decisive for 21.6%. Tax and retail intelligence expert FabrΓcio Tonegutti (FGV) warns that high interest rates and household debt will cap spending on big-ticket items, keeping the overall result positive but without a consumer boom.
Beyond Gifts: Supermarkets and Restaurants Also Benefit
Father's Day spending extends well beyond wrapped presents. Among consumers planning to buy gifts, 79% also intend to shop at supermarkets to celebrate with family barbecues or home meals. Restaurants, clothing and footwear stores, perfumeries, and e-commerce platforms all stand to gain from the date.
