Which Samsung phones are affected by the July 2026 update?

Reports are coming in from owners of two flagship models: the Galaxy S24 Ultra and the Galaxy S25 Ultra. After installing the July 2026 security update, users began experiencing rapid battery drain, overheating during everyday tasks, and slower charging speeds.

How bad is the battery drain?

One Galaxy S25 Ultra owner reported that his phone dropped from 85% to just 5% battery between midnight and noon — with only about two hours of screen-on time. Even on standby, the device was losing between 5% and 7% of charge per hour, a behaviour that did not exist before the update.

Is overheating a separate issue?

Several users link overheating directly to the update. One S25 Ultra owner wrote that the phone reaches 43°C while simply browsing Instagram, and that even a factory reset failed to fix the problem. There are also reports that the phone shuts down unexpectedly when the battery falls below 15%, and that charging appears noticeably slower than before.

What has Samsung said?

As of now, Samsung has not officially acknowledged the problem or confirmed whether a fix is in development. It is also unclear whether all units running the July update are affected, or only a portion of devices.

What should affected users do while waiting?

Owners are advised to monitor battery consumption in Settings and watch for the August 2026 security update, which could include a patch if Samsung confirms the bug. In the meantime, reducing screen brightness, disabling unused background apps and avoiding heavy tasks in warm environments may help limit excessive drain and heat.
