When exactly is August 2026 salary deadline?
The fifth business day of August 2026 falls on Thursday, 6 August. That is the absolute legal deadline by which employers must pay July salaries to all formally registered (CLT) workers in Brazil.
How is the five-day count calculated?
Under Brazilian labour law, business days run Monday through Saturday. Sundays and public holidays are excluded. For August 2026 the count works as follows:
- 1 Aug (Saturday) – 1st business day
- 2 Aug (Sunday) – not counted
- 3 Aug (Monday) – 2nd business day
- 4 Aug (Tuesday) – 3rd business day
- 5 Aug (Wednesday) – 4th business day
- 6 Aug (Thursday) – 5th business day ✓ deadline
Are there exceptions to the 6 August deadline?
Yes. Labour lawyer Thaiz Nobrega of Albuquerque Melo explains that collective bargaining agreements (CCTs) can restrict the count to Monday–Friday only. In that case the first business day becomes Monday 3 Aug and the fifth falls on Friday, 7 August. Companies that follow an administrative calendar excluding Saturdays must have that arrangement backed by a collective norm.
What about payment method on a Saturday?
Because 1 August is a Saturday and bulk payroll transfers (TED) are not processed at bank branches that day, companies paying under the CLT calendar should schedule a Pix transfer or pre-authorised credit in their banking system before the Saturday to avoid breaching the deadline.
What happens if salary is paid late?
Workers should first contact HR or the finance department to check for processing errors. They should also save bank statements proving non-receipt. If the delay continues, a claim can be filed with the Labour Court (Justiça do Trabalho). TST Precedent 381 guarantees that salaries paid after the fifth business day are subject to monetary correction plus applicable charges.
- Legal basis: Article 459 of the CLT
- Deadline for July 2026 salaries: Thursday, 6 August 2026
- Business days: Monday–Saturday (Sundays and holidays excluded)
- CCT exception may shift deadline to Friday, 7 August
- Saturday payments need Pix or pre-scheduled transfer
- TST Precedent 381 mandates monetary correction on late salaries
